Lakeland, TN Parks and Trails: A Local Guide

Lakeland Kelly Day October 3, 2026

Lakeland is a small city in northeast Shelby County, between Bartlett and Arlington along Interstate 40, and its parks are a big part of how the community comes together. The city grew up around what is now called Garner Lake, and that connection to water and woods still shows in its public spaces. Whether you already live in the 38002 zip code or you are getting to know Lakeland for the first time, here is a park-by-park look at what the city offers, based on the City of Lakeland's own descriptions.

International Harvester Managerial Park

Most people simply call it IH Park. Located at 4523 Canada Road, it covers 65 acres and is the center of public life in Lakeland. The city lists a 2.8-mile trail for walking and biking, a lake for fishing, picnic areas, restrooms, and a lakeside pavilion that can be reserved for groups of up to 50.

The park also includes:

  • The IH Clubhouse. A banquet room that holds up to 160 guests, with a dance floor and a warming kitchen, plus a smaller rec room for up to 40.
  • The LAMP. Short for Lakeland Amphitheater, this green space hosts the city's concert series and holiday festivals, and it can be reserved when the city is not using it.

Neighborhood Parks Around Lakeland

Beyond IH Park, Lakeland maintains a handful of smaller parks spread through the city. Each one has a different feel.

  • City Hall Park, 10001 U.S. Highway 70. A walking trail, tee ball field, open green space, playground, restrooms, and a reservable pavilion.
  • Zadie Kuehl Park, 3065 Yukon Drive. A 3-acre, ADA accessible park with a walking trail, playground, picnic areas, a pavilion, and a dog park with separate areas for small and large dogs.
  • Oakridge Park, 4215 Herons Landing Lane. A quiet setting with a playground and a medium-sized pavilion. The city notes this pavilion has no electricity or restrooms.
  • Windward Slopes Park, 9822 Beverle Rivera Drive. A playground, restrooms, tennis courts, and a pavilion for up to 30.
  • Cool Springs Park, on Cool Springs Boulevard. A walking trail that winds through a wooded area.
  • Plantation Hills Park, at the end of Bluebird Cove. A 3-acre federally designated wetland in the Plantation Hills neighborhood, set aside as a place to observe wildlife.

For organized sports, the city lists the Brody Townsend Athletic Complex at 9661 Memphis Arlington Road and the Lakeland Prep Annex Complex at 9651 Old Brownsville Road, which is shared between Lakeland Parks and Recreation and Lakeland Preparatory School.

Fall Events at IH Park

Lakeland's event calendar runs through IH Park for much of the year. Looking ahead, Lakeland Currents reported in June 2026 that the city's Harvest Festival and a LAMP concert are scheduled for October 24, 2026, at the park. Times and details can change, so check with Lakeland Parks and Recreation before you go.

The LAMP concert series ran on select dates in late summer and early fall this year, so if you missed it, it is something to watch for next season.

Getting There: The Canada Road Project

Canada Road is the main route to IH Park, and it is in the middle of a major rebuild. As reported locally this summer, the New Canada Road project runs from north of I-40 near Beverle Rivera Drive up to Highway 70 and is planned as a four-lane divided road with landscaped islands and separated bike and pedestrian trails on both sides. Construction began in October 2025. The same report said traffic is not expected to shift onto the new road until late 2027, with full completion expected in 2028.

If you are looking at homes near Canada Road, it is worth driving the corridor at the times you would normally travel it, and asking the city for the latest schedule. Road projects are temporary, but they do affect daily routines while they are underway.

What Parks Mean When You Are Choosing a Home in Lakeland

A few practical thoughts if park access is on your list:

  • Check the actual distance. Several Lakeland parks are tucked inside or beside neighborhoods. Others, like IH Park, are a short drive for most residents. Map it from the specific address.
  • Read the neighborhood documents. Many Lakeland subdivisions have homeowners associations, and some have their own common areas, lakes, or trails with separate rules and dues.
  • Confirm schools by address. The Lakeland School System operates Lakeland Elementary School and Lakeland Preparatory School. Grade configurations and high school assignments are best confirmed directly with the district.
  • Visit more than once. A park on a weekday morning and the same park on a concert night are two different experiences.

If you would like to talk about Lakeland, or about how it compares with nearby Arlington and Bartlett, please feel free to reach out. I am always glad to help, and there is never any pressure.
