Piperton Kelly Day October 15, 2026
Piperton is a small city in the southwest corner of Fayette County, sitting right on Collierville's eastern edge with Rossville to the east and the Mississippi state line to the south. It has a quiet, open feel, with much of the city still rural. Yet Piperton also sits at the meeting point of several major roads, which makes it more connected than many people expect.
If you are thinking about a home in Piperton, here is a practical look at the roads you will use most and how they connect to Collierville, Memphis and the wider region.
Four roads shape daily life in Piperton.
State Route 57 runs east and west through the center of the city. Heading west, it takes you into Collierville. Heading east, it continues through Rossville and on toward Moscow and Grand Junction. For many residents, Highway 57 is the everyday route for errands, school drop-offs and getting to Collierville's shops and restaurants.
U.S. Highway 72 crosses the southern part of Piperton. To the northwest, it leads into Collierville and on toward Memphis, about 26 miles from downtown. To the southeast, it heads into Mississippi toward Corinth.
State Route 196 begins at U.S. 72 near the Mississippi line, runs north through Piperton and crosses Highway 57 near the city's commercial center. From there, it continues north across the Wolf River toward Hickory Withe, with an interchange at Interstate 40 before ending in Gallaway.
State Route 385, the outer beltway also known as Nonconnah Parkway and Bill Morris Parkway, passes through the western part of the city near the Collierville line.
The biggest change for Piperton commuters in the past decade has been Interstate 269. The full route was completed in 2018, linking Interstate 40 in Arlington to Interstate 55 in Hernando, Mississippi.
Several I-269 interchanges are close to Piperton:
Heading north on I-269 leads toward Macon Road, U.S. 64 near Bartlett and Somerville, and eventually I-40 in Arlington. Heading south takes you into Mississippi, where I-269 connects with I-22 and U.S. 78 near Byhalia before reaching I-55 in Hernando. For anyone who regularly travels to north Mississippi or toward Nashville by way of I-40, that access can make a real difference.
For trips west, most Piperton residents rely on Highway 57, U.S. 72 or State Route 385. Highway 57 is the most direct route into Collierville and its historic Town Square. U.S. 72 is a common route toward the shopping and services along Poplar Avenue in Collierville and Germantown.
State Route 385 is often the go-to choice for longer commutes into Memphis. It runs west across southern Shelby County, connecting with major north-south roads along the way, and can be a smoother drive than surface streets at peak times.
Drive times vary a great deal depending on where in Piperton you live, the time of day and your destination. If you have a regular commute in mind, the best test is to make the drive yourself at the hours you would actually be on the road. A route that feels easy on a Sunday afternoon can be quite different at 7:30 on a weekday morning.
Piperton and neighboring Rossville sit near a Norfolk Southern rail line and the Norfolk Southern intermodal facility that opened southwest of Rossville in 2012. That rail and freight activity is part of the local landscape, and it can mean truck traffic on certain routes. When you are looking at homes, it is worth noting how close a property is to rail lines and freight corridors, so you can decide what feels right for you.
Away from the main highways, many Piperton roads are two-lane country roads with fewer streetlights and wider spacing between homes. Some people love that setting, while others prefer being closer to a main road. Both are possible in Piperton, often within a few minutes of each other.
When you are comparing homes in Piperton, location within the city matters. A home near Highway 57 and the Collierville line will feel different, and drive differently, than one farther south near U.S. 72 or out along State Route 196. Think about where you go most often, whether that is work, the gym, shopping, appointments or visits with friends, and how each location fits that pattern.
